There is, however, legislation that applies to insurers, including those dealing with bail bonds, that requires continuing education and there are also provisions for the release of bail bonds to sureties. Sureties are allowed to make arrests in the state. Therefore, Bounty Hunting is allowed in Montana and is not governed by any specific set of rules.

Becoming a Bounty Hunter in Montana simply requires that you find employment with a licensed insurance company dealing in bail bonds or obtain an insurance license for your own business. Insurance licenses, including those for surety, are granted through the Department of Insurance.  Notably, insurance professionals executing only insurance bail bonds are not required to do any continuing education as is required for all other insurance professionals in the state.
